Does anyone have any suggestion on a microphone that works well plugged into the Diamante that does not require batteries?
Thank you in advance,
Amanda Lohnaas

I have a friend who uses the SP-MMM-1 Mini Mono Omnidirectional microphone from Sound Professionals. She's very satisfied with it.

Their web site is www.soundprofessionals.com.

Good luck.

Does anyone know why I get squealing while listening to audio on my Diamante? I am using the mic from Sound Professionals.

Do all of you really use the MMM-1 directly in your Diamante? Don't you hear the sound of your fingers hitting your keys?

Or, are you using an extension with that so you don't hear that?

You probably have the mic gain set way too high, nans.

You do hear the keyboard, Shugar, but the audio quality is still so good that you hear the voices fine.

Does it matter what sensitivity to order? It comes in high, standard and ultra high sensitivities. Thanks

I use the same microphone and love it. Yes, I can hear the faint "thumping" of my fingers too, but agree that the audio is so good that it is just background noise. I put a tiny piece of Velcro on the top of my screen and place the mic there.

As far as the squealing, I had the same problem and discovered that if I have my Blue Soleil Bluetooth chip in my Diamante but not my computer, I get the squealing. I had the bright idea that I could just leave both chips in my laptop and Diamante and not have to worry about removing them and replacing them. Well, when I did a short hearing where I did not hook up to my laptop, my Bluetooth was still in my Diamante, apparently sending out a signal, thus causing the squealing. I've stopped this practice and no longer have the issue.

Hi, Mike. I just received this mic on your recommendation. Can you also recommend the setting on the Diamante? Is it 105, 110, etc.? Thanks!

I think we covered this a few months back, but I use 143.53% for my Diamante microphone gain and a few other users concurred on this level. Give it a try.

Which level of sensitivity for the microphone do you use? It comes in three sensitivity levels.

Thanks,

Tina

Bumping up this thread because like the previous poster I'd like to know which SP-MMM-1 you purchased. When you buy it you have three options of sensitivity to choose from, regular to ultra high sensitivity. Which one did you purchase?

This mic did not work well for me. I am sending it back. Way too much feedback from the steno keyboard and the quality was poor. The people at Sound Professionals were very nice when I called to inform them and did not give me a hassle about returning.

Do you use the Andrea USB soundcard, along with the SP-MMM-1 on the Diamante to cut the key tapping noise or just the SP-MMM-1 alone?

why not order it with the extension cable and have it away from the machine? does that cut down on the efficiency of the mic?

Here's the mic I use and I LOVE it. I use one on my steno machine and also for my audiosync on my laptop connected to my Andrea PureAudio USB sound card (because my internal sound card sucks balls on my laptop). It's the perfect combo.

There's a bit cheaper variation of this same mic also, but I like this one because it's a "2-sided" mic and captures both questioning atty and the witness equally well. Big plus, no batteries, and it sits up on the table so I don't hear the pounding of my steno keys on the rare occasion that I've had to use the Diamante audio.

The guys at Sound Professionals are excellent and they're the only people I deal with for mics and recording equipment.

*edited on 11/23/2012 - the above link doesn't work because apparently Sound Professionals no longer sells this mic. Bummer, because it's a great mic. - spm

Mike: What do you have your settings set for on Microphone Gain on your Diamante for the SP-MMM-1 mic?

I use a Sound Tech CM-1000, without battery, which seems to work well.

I use a battery-powered Martel Conference Grabber on my digital recorder, which has outstanding sound. I can hear my fingers tapping the Diamante, but the sound is so clear, it is no problem.

These comments began in 2010. Is there a mic of choice now from Sound Profs. or still the same above or this new post re: CM-1000. I have found the good 'ole Radio Shack non-battery mic that most in my office have used with no issues with & it's only $20. Is there a preferred ic for Diamante?
thanks

You can get a mic for under $10 and it works great! I bought a couple so I'm never without one. It is about the size of a half dollar and only drawback is it is lightweight, so if you want to put it on the table, what I do is put the cord under my laptop to hold it in place. I also have a small piece of velcro that I attached to the top of my Diamante and stick it there. It still picks up fine for deposition work. I LOVE it!
You can Google it or buy it right from eBay:
Cyber Acoustics Lapel Microphone with Clip and Monitor Holster CVL-1124RB
There is a very similar Labtec Verse one that works just as well but is harder to find. I would highly recommend trying it.
