Help!! Can someone tell me??? I'm learning Phoenix Theory, does it matter which one I use? I remember reading somewhere that only the LX memory is big enough for Phoenix dictionary, is it true?
I'm trying to figure out which writer to purchase.
I need one that will allow me to finish school and into the real job world.
No budget for the NICE Diamante or WAVE........
Any suggestion is very much appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

The 8000 doesn't have RAM and the LX does. I think that's the only difference. So there will be no internal memory but you can still write realtime and to a floppy.

I'm pretty sure you can load a dictionary on either one (unlike the 6000 which only has steno as your display).

I think either one is fine for school, personally.

LaBella:

The 8000 most probably doesn't have enough memory to install the complete Phoenix Theory dictionary, and if I remember correctly, depending on when the specific LX was created, it might not either!

Before you make a costly mistake, please call Stenograph at 800-323-4247 ext 5563 to discuss this! We'll help you figure out whether the specific LX you're thinking of buying may or may not work, and other cost-effective options. (The Wave may not be as unreachable as you imagine.)

Some of the 8000LX models have 4MB of RAM and some have 2MB. The 2MB models won't load the Pheonix or any other large dictionary.

Serial numbers over 8045119 have 4MB of RAM.

Well, do you need to load your dix onto the writer at all? Not sure why/if that's a requirement? You can always put it in 6000 mode and see your steno. I would think that would be more than sufficient for a student?

Although I am not sure how school works these days, so maybe that's where you should start.

Right, Jill?
I did load mine when I first got my Stentura (and Diamante, too), but I have never updated it or used it, really. On either writer. I'm much more likely to look at the steno.

Thank you all!
I was wondering about the dictionary part for the future,
I only need to read my steno for school,
I guess I didn't need to worry about the ability of loading the entire dictionary.
Once again, thank you!
